Bursledon Brickworks was founded in 1897 by the Ashby family who were brick makers in Chandlers Ford. The 1897 works was added to in 1903 and with this extra capacity the brickworks were producing more than 20 million bricks a year. Fort Widley

This huge Fort was built in 1861 to defend Portsmouth from sea and land and is part of the ‘Palmerston Follies’. A central spiral staircase descends from the parade ground to give you access to the four main underground tunnels, which run deep within Portsdown Hill, these radiate out from the base of the staircase. The tunnels lead to the barrack block and caponiers. The main magazine is located half way along the tunnel to the barrack block on the west side. There is a semi circular tunnel by passing the main magazine.

Priddy's Hard & Explosion Museum

The origins of the area as it stands today began when the Board Of Ordinance, a Naval government body, purchased the land that would become 'Priddy's Hard' (named after its former landowner Jane Priddy) in 1750. The area enjoys a rich and fascinating history and in it's past has been a fort, an armaments depot, a storage centre and most recently housing development and museum. We are fortunate to have access to the museum building and an array of storage warehouses, work shops and old magazines.

Royal Victoria Country Park Chapel

Royal Victoria Country Park is a beautiful shore-side park by Southampton Waters and near Netley Abbey. From 1863 until 1966, the park was home to the Royal Victoria (or 'Netley') Military Hospital. For its early life, the hospital gave over a section of its premises to accomodate the army's first ever purpose-built military asylum and also served as a base for the Army Medical School, training civilian doctors for army services. In both World Wars, the hospital errected huts on the back of the site and was used to treat the tens of thousands of injured returning from the battlefields.
